How to Live Your life Authentically
When something doesn’t feel right to you it is a sign that the situation, experience or person doesn’t belong in your life. Often this is experienced in the workplace when you find you are dragging yourself through the day just to complete something that gives you very little satisfaction. Authenticity is the opposite feeling. When you are being truly authentic you are living life that is alignment with you and your personal values, preferences and natural abilities and life simply feels harmonious and in balance.
To live a truly authentic life you need to know yourself – inside out. Self-awareness, self-love and self-knowledge give you the insight you require to understand what an authentic life is for you. When you have this understanding and awareness you naturally begin to shift aspects of your life so that you can gain balance in all that you do and you feel liberated. This level of authenticity makes you transparent and vulnerable but also helps others see who you really are, which is definitely a good thing.
Set The Scene
Being authentic requires consistency in action and thought and an openness to accept all aspects of who you are and what you want to experience from life. It is important to set the intention to be genuine in all that you say and do. Many people skip through life assuming they are being genuine, because they have a positive outlook and get along with people in a helpful, friendly manner. But truly genuine people do not have to make statements to prove authenticity they simply follow through with every intention.
If you desire to live your life authentically you must be willing to examine and explore your life as it currently stands, and to embrace changes in all areas of your life. This must start with gaining a better understanding our your self and your patterns of behaviour, and continues through to explore your work, skills, abilities and all of the relationships you share with others. Being authentic means letting go of all that no longer serves you so that you can continue to grow and become all that you can possibly be.
Your life is authentic when:
You know what you value. Without being fully aware of the things that matter you are not able to align your actions to support your beliefs.
You always trust your intuition. Truly knowing yourself means that you know how to listen to your body and can understand the clues it gives (think feeling in the gut when something doesn’t feel quite right) to enable you to choose the best course of action for your own good.
You are open to every experience. Authenticity comes from understanding good and bad, happy and sad, pain and joy. Without balance your life is not authentic.
You know when you are not being fully authentic. From time to time, particularly at the start of your new changes, you may slip up and revert back to old patterns of thinking and behaviour. Learn to listen to your intuition and to make swift alterations so that you get back on the road to authenticity.
